Mackay Mansion
November 8, 1952. This square building with the unusual central chimney was built as the company offices for the Gould and Curry Mining Company. The first resident was George Hearst, father of William Randolph Hearst. After he made his fortune and left town, the building became home to another one of Viginia City's rich and powerul elite, John Mackay. The house was renamed Mackay Mansion, and has kept the name to this day.
June 19, 2004. The Mackay Mansion now offers tours and weddings, and occasionally rent out the bedrooms upstairs. It was in one these rooms that actor Johnny Depp stayed while he was in town filming the movie Dead Man. During his stay he was visited by the Girl in White, a local spirit that has been haunting the top floor of the mansion for countless years.
June 19, 2004. Another view, letting you see the whole building.
